Get ready, comedy fans! The UK is about to get a dose of the iconic 'Saturday Night Live' treatment, and the creative team behind it has just been revealed. This is big news for sketch comedy lovers!
Leading the charge as the lead producer is James Longman, a two-time Emmy winner. You might recognize his name from 'The Late Late Show with James Corden,' as well as popular UK comedy shows like 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks' and 'Alan Carr: Chatty Man.' This guy knows his stuff!
But that's not all. Directing the UK edition of SNL is Liz Clare, who has experience directing some of the UK's most-watched live broadcasts, including 'An Audience with Adele,' the BRIT Awards, the BAFTA Film Awards, and even the Glastonbury music festival. Talk about a resume!
And the head writer? That's Daran Jonno Johnson, a writer, comedian, and composer, who is also part of the sketch group Sheeps. He's also written for Disney+'s 'Wedding Season' and the BBC's 'Siblings.'
What's really interesting is that Lorne Michaels, the creator and executive producer of the original SNL, is also involved in the UK edition. This suggests a commitment to maintaining the show's high standards.
James Longman shared his excitement, saying, "After several years in LA, it’s amazing to come back home to such a vibrant and exciting live comedy scene. 'Saturday Night Live' has set the bar for live sketch comedy for half a century, and to help bring that legacy to London using our amazing on-screen and off-screen talent, along with a tremendous investment in U.K. production, is a massive honour.”
SNL UK will be produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio’s U.K. production team and Broadway Video for Sky and Now.
